What Should My Website Contain?

1. What should my website contain?

  • The first thing you need to do before your website can be designed is to determine to what audience your website will be targeted.  It is vital that you identify your potential customers.  Because of the vast potential audience for a website, you must know how to target your website message!

  • After you've clearly defined your potential customers, you must then address the question:  "what information does my target audience need to learn about my company and it's product?"  Gather all the information your customers might need.  Good sources of material might include photos, brochures describing your product, technical specifications of your product ... whatever information will help potential customers discover that you have what they need to satisfy their requirements.

  • You should consider providing some or all of the following:

    1. frequently asked questions (FAQs) with your answers,
    2. helpful tips for your customers, regularly updated,
    3. a guest book to log customer contacts,
    4. feedback and order forms, and,
    5. information telling your customers how to obtain technical support or service.

After you've defined your target audience and the information your website should provide them, your website design can begin.

Your next step, then, is to consider your website design creation alternatives.
